our history

Wim Coetzer started to practise as an attorney in partnership under the name of Van der Merwe & Coetzer Attorneys in Zeerust in 1994 in a general attorneys’ practice. In 2006 Wim Coetzer left Van der Merwe & Coetzer Attorneys and resumed practising in partnership under the name of Botha Coetzer Smith Attorneys in Mahikeng, specialising in High Court litigation and personal injury cases. After his partners left the partnership, Wim Coetzer continued practising as a sole practitioner in 2006. In 2012 the name of the practice was changed to W J Coetzer Attorneys. Due to the volume of the firm’s high court litigation in the Gauteng High Court, a branch office was established in Pretoria in January 2017.  From March 2020, a company with limited liability was established: W J Coetzer Attorneys Inc. Christine Coetzer, who is the daughter of the founder of the firm, Wim Coetzer, was admitted as an attorney on 5 December 2014; she thereafter acquired practising skills in personal injury litigation before joining W J Coetzer Attorneys Inc in January 2017.
